The fourth Wagashi making workshop “Momoyama”, Saturday, September 25, 2021

The fourth Wagashi Workshop was held online on Saturday, September 25, 2021, from 10:00 a.m.
The instructor was Ms. Nobue Kodama of the Zenshuji chadobu, who also taught the last events. Sixteen people participated.
This time, she taught us how to make the baked wagashi, “Momoyama”. We can enjoy “Momoyama” from season to season by changing the shape, decoration, and bean paste.
There was an explanation of how to make the two types of patterns, the “roof tiles of the Momoyama Palace (Fushimi Castle), ” which are said to be the origin of the name and the “chrysanthemum flowers. ”
The workshop progressed at a brisk pace as Ms. Kodama, who is a keen researcher, told us interesting stories about how she devised substitutes for materials and tools that are difficult to obtain in the US. The questions and answers were lively and active. The participants enjoyed the freshly baked sweets and bowls of thin tea in a friendly atmosphere.

CoA Robinson concluded the workshop with her gratitude to Ms. Kodama and the participants.
