On Sunday, November 20, 2018, the annual Sotan-ki was conducted at Nichiren Temple to commemorate the great tea master, Sotan, Grand Master III, who lived in the 17th century. The memorial ceremony included hanayose, the flower offerings, and kucha, a memorial tea ceremony.
All participants renewed their commitment to follow the teachings of Chanoyu. Following the ceremony, a lecture “The Many Meanings of Chanoyu” was given by Dr. Jennifer Anderson whose study is focused on Anthropology. Through her own experiences and study of Chado, she explained that practicing the spiritual ceremony such as Chado promote peacefulness.
