OKASHI MAKING FOR IKYUKIMARCH 17, 19, AND 22, 2024
Members of the Urasenke Tankokai Los Angeles Association were invited to participate in the making of the hanaikada okashi that was served at Rikyuki on March 24, 2024.
The sessions were led by Ms. Nobue Kodama. The hanaikada okashi was specially selected since we learned that Urasenke Japan serves this at the memorial for Rikyu sama. Legend has it that the urn was attached to the flower raft and as it floated, the urn detached signifying that the spirit had gone to heaven.
Over the 3 days, 14 members volunteered their time to make 80 of the okashi. Not only was it a great learning experience, members from different shachu had an opportunity to gather and get to know each other. Special thanks to Ms. Kodama for holding this fun activity for our members.
