On Sunday, January 14, 2018, the general meeting and Hatsudate ceremony was held at the Double Tree by Hilton. 85 members of Urasenke Tankokai L.A. Association attended the 2018 General Meeting.
Chief of Administration Uyesugi addressed that with this year’s slogan “cherish the spirit of chado” in mind, let us continue pursuing the way of tea. She also wished that 2018 will be even more prosperous for our association that has currently 290 members.
For Hatsudate ceremony, we had total of 102 guests including the guests from Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles, Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Southern California, Japanese American Cultural and Community Center and Urasenke Tankokai Orange County Association.
The hanging scroll ‘Oimatsu Sen-nen no Iro’ by Zabosai Grand Master, the buriburi shaped incense container and the hanging willow, plum, camellia and nandina in the freshly cut bamboo were displayed for the celebration of the new year. During the lunch, the guests enjoyed auspicious Japanese music by koto and shakuhachi instruments.
